PART 04 — LOFT

LOFT KITCHENS.

Black steel, stone with a solid edge and timber that still looks like timber. Kitchen Atelier makes loft kitchens to measure for your room, builds them in our own workshop and backs the work with a 10-year warranty.

PART 04.2 — THE STYLE

04.2

A LOFT KITCHEN SHOWS HOW IT IS MADE. METAL, STONE AND TIMBER STAY IN VIEW, AND NOTHING IS DRESSED UP TO LOOK LIKE SOMETHING ELSE.

The style comes from warehouse conversions: solid materials, plain joinery and fittings you can see. In a St Kilda apartment or terrace it works best when you choose a few strong elements and give each one a clear job. Hardware draws the lines. The benchtop sets the weight. Timber brings the warmth. The three parts below show where each material does its work.

PART 04.3 — MATERIALS

BLACK STEEL & BRUSHED METAL

Hardware does the heavy lifting in a loft kitchen. Black-steel pulls read as a drawn line against timber or dark fronts. Brushed metal catches the light without the shine of polished chrome. You pick the handle profile and finish from our hardware samples, and we fit them to fronts cut in our workshop.

A SOLID BENCHTOP EDGE

The benchtop decides the style. A thick, square stone edge gives the flat, solid look that loft rooms suit. A slimmer edge stops an island from feeling heavy in a smaller space. Grey and veined surfaces sit well next to black metal.

TIMBER AS THE ACCENT

Timber warms the metal and stone. It shouldn’t cover every surface. Open shelves, an island end panel or a single run of veneer fronts are the natural places for it. Visible grain keeps the mood industrial.

PART 04.4 — LAYOUT

OPEN PLAN SUITS IT.

Loft kitchens usually sit in open rooms, in full view of the dining and living space. An island often suits the style. It turns the stone benchtop into a freestanding block, adds a seating side and leaves tall storage against the wall.

In a narrower room, an L-shaped run along two walls keeps the floor open and still leaves space for a table. Straight and U-shaped layouts work too. At the measurement visit we check what your walls and services allow.

PART 04.5 — BEFORE THE VISIT

PICK THE MOOD. WE MEASURE THE REST.

Your free measurement visit covers the room itself. If you have made a few loft decisions before we arrive, 3D design moves faster. Production, delivery and installation then follow in the order set out in how we work.

01  Black steel or brushed metal for the handles

02  A square stone edge or a slimmer profile

03  Where the timber goes: shelves, island panel or fronts

04  Island, L-shaped or another layout

05  The appliances that need a place in the run
