PART 07 — LAYOUTS & QUOTE

KITCHEN LAYOUTS & QUOTE REQUEST.

Every Kitchen Atelier kitchen is made to measure, so the layout comes first. It decides how the benches run, where you work and what the quote is built on. This sheet covers the four layouts, compares two of them side by side and lists the five factors behind every estimate.

B

PART B — FOUR LAYOUTS

FOUR WAYS TO RUN THE BENCH.

A kitchen can be straight, L-shaped, U-shaped or built with an island. Each plan below is drawn from above: the heavy black line is the cabinetry run, the thin line is the room.

01

STRAIGHT

One wall, one run. Cooking, washing and storage sit in a line, which suits narrow rooms and open-plan spaces where the kitchen should not take over.

02

L-SHAPED

Two runs meet in a corner. The middle of the room stays free, and the main work zones sit a short turn apart.

03

U-SHAPED

Three walls of cabinetry wrap around the cook. You get the most bench and storage for the footprint, as long as the room is wide enough to walk between the runs.

04

WITH AN ISLAND

A wall run plus a freestanding bench. The island adds prep space or seating and turns the kitchen to face the room.

PART C — COMPARED

TWO LAYOUTS, ONE ROOM.

The same room can often take either plan. These are the four questions that usually decide it.

For the longer version, read L-Shaped or Island: Choosing Your Kitchen Layout.

L-SHAPED

L-SHAPED  FITS BEST WHEN

Two adjoining walls meet in a usable corner and you want open floor for a dining table or a clear walkway.

L-SHAPED  WORK ZONES

Cooking, washing and storage run along two walls with the corner linking them. One cook works in a short arc.

L-SHAPED  WHAT CHANGES THE ESTIMATE

The combined length of both runs, the front material, the benchtop that turns the corner and the appliances built in.

L-SHAPED  TALK TO THE DESIGNER ABOUT

How the corner is used for storage, where the fridge lands and whether a shorter return leaves room to sit.

ISLAND

ISLAND  FITS BEST WHEN

The room is deep enough to leave comfortable walkways on every side of a freestanding bench.

ISLAND  WORK ZONES

The wall run holds cooking and tall storage. The island takes prep, a sink or seating and faces the room.

ISLAND  WHAT CHANGES THE ESTIMATE

The wall run plus the island’s size, fronts on its exposed sides, benchtop over both and any appliances it carries.

ISLAND  TALK TO THE DESIGNER ABOUT

Clearance around it, which side the stools face and how the back and ends of the island are finished.

PART D — ON THE SAW

WHAT SETS THE ESTIMATE.

A made-to-measure kitchen has no catalogue price. Five things shape the estimate, and the free measurement visit pins each of them down. More detail in What Sets a Kitchen Estimate.

01

LAYOUT

Straight, L-shaped, U-shaped or island. The number of runs and corners sets how many cabinets and joins the kitchen needs.

02

LENGTH

The total run of cabinetry, measured wall by wall in your room.

03

FRONT MATERIAL

The finish on every cabinet front, chosen from the sample board.

04

BENCHTOP

The benchtop material and the length it has to cover, island included.

05

APPLIANCES

Which appliances go in, and which ones the cabinetry has to be built around.

PART E — REQUEST

ASK FOR THE QUOTE.

You can send a quote request at any time: put your layout, length, front material, benchtop and appliances in the Subject or Message field below. Rough figures are fine. The written quote is confirmed after the free measurement visit and 3D design.

We use these details to respond to your enquiry. Please avoid sending sensitive personal information.
